For nearly 30 years, Brass Light Gallery has been
designing and manufacturing high quality residential
and commercial lighting fixtures that turn heads. These
are not the typical lighting fixtures you see at your
local home stores – they are high-end products
that are well crafted and highly sought. Products are
of both the indoor and outdoor variety, from mission
style to contemporary.
Before they purchased SolidWorks, Brass Light Gallery
didn’t use any CAD program because their light
fixtures are often re-casted from originals. When Mike
Kahn joined the team nearly 5 years ago, he headed
up the effort to introduce CAD to the business. “When
I came to the company, there was nothing, so I said ‘Let’s
go with the best,’” Mike said, referring
to SolidWorks. In fact, there was no formal engineering
department at Brass Light. They now use SolidWorks
for a combination of tasks; however sheet metal is
the staple of their design work in the program.
“There’s no question that SolidWorks exceeded
the expectations. Everyone that I am aware of who works
with it just loves it.” Mike feels that the ease
of use when compared to Pro/E and the cost of the software
make it “a no-brainer.” He adds, “Since
day one, it’s been great."
As far as Graphics Systems goes, Mike is comfortable
with the relationship that exists between the two organizations. “Whenever
we’ve called, Graphics Systems has always answered
the questions. The training is great.”
Brass Light Gallery’s client base is very diverse;
their products can be seen at the Olympic Village and
Universal Studios, as well as actor Harrison Ford’s
residence to name a few. Former President Clinton and
First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton recently asked for
a quote.
